With words and music inspired by Thomas Tallis’s popular motet, Philip Lancaster presents a new, secular reading of If ye love me; a declaration of love and commitment that is especially suited to weddings.  Both words and music hold echoes of Tallis’s original, but all taken in new and touching directions.

IF YE LOVE ME

If ye love me, as I love you:
Take me as I am,
and I will take you just as you are;
and I will share with you, and I shall give you whatever comfort and love that I can;
and I shall bide with you
in the spirit of truth and openness;
and we, through laughter, through tears, shall in wisdom grow together.
